Dov Scheindlin
About
I'm a member of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, an associate member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and a former member of the Arditti, Penderecki, and Chester String Quartets. I have 27 years of teaching experience, at Harvard, Princeton, NYU, Wilfrid Laurier University and many summer festivals. I have recorded chamber music extensively, and am featured as solo viola in a CD recording in Strauss' Don Quixote for the Aparte label. I am fluent in French and German, and I can teach in Spanish and Italian as well. I am passionate about classical music of all periods, including contemporary music. In addition to all kinds of viola repertoire, I am happy to teach chamber music parts and orchestral excerpts.
I will tailor my teaching to your specific goals. I believe in the central importance of regular performance to consolidate progress. In addition to sharing technical and musical information, I will teach you successful practice methods, so you can be as productive as possible in your self-directed time. I will also discuss historical background where appropriate and I can guide your listening to enhance your musical range.
