About

Being involved in music for over 30 years, I am an accomplished classical and contemporary pianist, accompanist, musical director and teacher, having studied at Elder Conservatorium of Music for a B. Mus (Performance) and at the Trinity College of Music in London. In 2009, I completed a Master of Arts in Music and Creative Industries at QUT. I was awarded my PhD in music education from Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University (2017).
I bring to students a holistic learning experience, development of their creative abilities and a love of music that can help them build a lifetime of involvement in music. My PhD research in music education and creativity means that I am a specialist in children's musical creativity and have a broad experience of different teaching pedagogies (this helps in finding the appropriate teaching style to suit each individual student).

I am the director of a music studio, teaching piano and music theory for students of all ages, with a specialty for intermediate to advanced and diploma level. Whether it is purely for pleasure or you wish to study for exams or perform, each lesson will inspire you! I work with Trinity College of Music , ABRSM and AMEB (Piano Series, Piano for Leisure and Contemporary Popular Music) syllabuses for exam preparation and also a variety of other classical, pop and jazz music, for an enjoyable, creative and holistic learning experience. I also include aural training, sight-reading, effective practicing, music theory and musicianship training within the lessons. I have a background in musical theater, so can also work with vocal students, as soloists or as piano/vocalists.  Each student has a different musical path and goals, so I tailor the lessons to suit you. Through the development of strong technical skills together with a broad range of musical skills, I help students to develop a love of music that can last a lifetime:)

A recent parent testimonial: "My boys have flourished musically while learning at Shari's studio and have developed a high-level of artistic and technical ability. Guided by her immense knowledge of musical repertoire and performance technique, they have achieved very high results in their examinations. Through their piano lessons, their confidence and understanding of music has grown and this has encouraged them to participate in other musical endeavors. Shari's mentorship, patience, dedication, passion and skill has helped them become accomplished musicians".

For my U.S. based and other international students, I offer online lessons. Online lessons are flexible and fun and with the ever-growing list of technological advances in this area, they are very easy to do! I have taught lessons online for the past 3 years and have developed a lot of expertise in this medium. Many of my students have had great success with their examinations via the online format, as many exam bodies now encourage this approach. So many students love learning from the comfort of their own home and playing on their own piano (sometimes in their pjs!). Students can also participate in my studio's famously fun concerts via the online format. Different online platforms provide for screen sharing, multiple camera views, enhanced sound, online access to videos, sight-reading apps, annotations of scores, recordings and music theory games. Students have a closeup view of my keyboard which enables them to see fingering and technique.
