Durgesh Kanwal
About
I am a professionally trained percussionist involved in independent and collaborative music projects both in India and internationally. My musical journey began at the age of 11, and in 2009 I began my formal music education at the prestigious music school "Kathak Kendra," where I learned classical Tabla to accompany the 'Kathak' dance. In 2014, I began travelling across Europe to attend several music camps, collaborate with fellow artists, and perform at various festivals in countries like Belgium, Germany, Estonia, and Lithuania. In addition, since 2013, I have been actively involved in organizing similar musical residency programs and concerts in India that bring together young artists from around the world.
Aside from my musical expertise, I am also skilled in crafting several musical instruments such as Tabla, Djembe, Cajon, Darbuka, Didgeridoo, among others. I have been conducting workshops in schools and institutes since 2011, and I also manage a project called 'Indi Shala'.
Teaching Style
I have been imparting the art of music since 2011, bringing forth a rich classical background. My approach to teaching involves laying a strong foundation by delving into the intricacies of classical styles. Beyond instructing the repertoire, I strive to instill a profound understanding of the rhythm's cultural and stylistic nuances. This includes unraveling the creation of compositions and exploring the profound influence of culture on these rhythms.
