Dylan Rogers
About
Hello, I'm Dylan! I am a voice teacher based out of North Vancouver who specializes in musical theatre. I began in music at the age of 5, and it's been my passion ever since!
I have studied with many teachers over the years, largely focusing on classical and musical theatre styles. I took my first steps towards teaching at the age of 16, when I accidentally (it's a long story) became Assistant Music Director of a production of the opera Carmen. I fell in love, and it's lead me to where I am today, years later. Nowadays, you'll find me on various casting boards and working behind the scenes with various groups across all of Greater Vancouver.
I am incredibly proud of many of my students for becoming working professionals in theatre; several former students are now based in Toronto, where they are all performing and singing successfully. Other students consistently audition and receive roles here in Greater Vancouver. Still others have no desire to perform in front of people, but would rather be able to sing in the shower comfortably, and I am equally as proud of them!
I studied at the University of Northern British Columbia, and during that time, I learned to prioritize vocal health and individuality. I celebrate my students and hope to help them love music in the way that I do.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is based around the philosophy that anyone can sing, but not everyone has learned how! I have a wealth of knowledge that I delight in sharing with students, which makes my studio a place of joy and warmth as well as learning. While I of course want to help your voice reach my standards, I also want to help it reach your own standards, which are generally much higher! I believe in giving you the tools that you need to identify your voice's behaviour even when I am not around to help.
Lessons with me include approximately half an hour of warming up and doing vocal exercises to encourage your voice to behave the way you'd like it to, with the remainder of our time dedicated to working on specific repertoire. I offer lessons both virtually and out of my studio in North Vancouver.
