Ed Reid

Ed is an versatile trumpet player, capable of performing various styles of music. He currently serves as a trumpet player in the U.S. Navy Fleet Bands and has been stationed at Navy Band Northeast, in Newport, RI since January 2017. Previously Ed was a part of the U.S. SEVENTH Fleet band in Yokosuka, Japan and Navy Band Great Lakes just outside Chicago, IL. Prior to joining the Navy Ed performed as a freelance musician in Louisville, KY playing various styles of music, including broadway show, big band, brass quintet, and solo trumpet at weddings. Ed was also a member of the 202nd Army National Guard Band based out of Frankfort, KY. His teaching experience includes private lessons studios in Louisville, KY and Tampa, FL as well as sectional coaching in Louisville and Elizabethtown, KY. While completing his graduate degree, Ed was a teaching assistant for the trumpet studio and the University of South Florida where he was responsible for teaching private lessons for undergraduates, and coaching two semesters of a jazz combo for undergraduate honors students.

Ed completed a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance at the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Music for Morehead State University.

Ed is comfortable teaching students of all ages and experience levels. He has worked with beginners who have never held a trumpet to accomplished undergraduate students and everything in between. His trumpet style is rooted in the teachings of Bill Adam, which approaches the trumpet from an emphasis on creating solid fundamentals necessary to create a big, beautiful sound and then applying that to making music. Common trumpet method books used are Arban, Schlossberg, Clarke, Getchell, Charlier, and Stamp to name a few.
