Eftychia Kavalika
About
Greetings from Greece!
My name is Eftychia Kavalika and I have been working in public Primary and Secondary schools as Music Tutor for 13 years. My Master's degree is in Musicology and Music Education. Working in Public Education, I had the chance to teach from Primary Grade 1 to the last Grades of Music Highschool. I love teaching and I have been working with kids (5+), teenagers and adults in classrooms, choirs, small groups and individually since 2007.
In 2006 I co-founded the female vocal group "Pleiades" which researches and performs traditional polyphonic songs. ( http://pleiades.org.gr/?page_id=33 )
I have also studied drama and flamenco dance and worked for more than 7 years as an actress, singer and vocal trainer collaborating with local theater (https://www.tedxthessaloniki.com/performers/aktis-aeliou), experience that really expanded my horizon in performing arts, their interaction and their great value as an educational tool especially on the early stages of education.
Teaching Style
Teaching for me is a very creative and inspiring process. The method I follow is actually personalized for every student/ group/class I meet according to their age, their needs and temperament. The goals though are very specific for each subject:
As a Music Tutor for Kids (pre-school and primary school) my inspiration has always been the methods of Carl Orff, Kodaly and Dalcroze, where the children can discover all the basic elements of music (rhythm, melody, dynamics) through movement, exploration of the voice, fun activities and improvisation. The main goal for me at these early stages is for the kids to have fun with music, develop their music perception, gain musical experiences and build confidence.
In Music Theory class my goal is to help the student familiarize with the music language from Basic level (staff, pitch names, rhythmic values) to Advanced (sight reading, solfeggio, melodic dictation, harmony).
As a Vocal Tutor my goal is to help the student improve his/her singing voice, through comprehension of breathing technique, vocal registers, pitch, rhythm and interpretation.
