Eileen Bernstein

1. Music: I designed a songwriting curriculum and taught songwriting at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland, where the subject had never been taught before. I have had contracts with music publishers, and my songs have been featured on digital and college radio. Most recently, tracks from my No Place But Up EP were featured on WHUS UCONN's Square Pegs & Round Holes program. I have played solo, in a duo, and in a band on guitar and keyboard at festivals, writers nights, cafes, bars, and house concerts in the Mid-Atlantic and Nashville areas. 

2. Languages: I spent over 20 years translating Spanish and French for government agencies and businesses. I lived in Spain and traveled through France. I have a B.A.  in Spanish from the University of New Hampshire, and tutored college students in Spanish and French when I was still an undergraduate myself. I have also tutored students at the high school level. I have an M.A. in Political Science from George Washington University.

1. Music: I inspired my songwriting students at Anne Arundel Community College to be open and honest in their writing, and to share their songs with the public. We start with learning the basic elements of lyrics and melody, and analyze how they are used in different genres. You will complete writing exercises in which you apply the lyrical and melodic techniques you learn to your own writing. If you also wish, after you have moved up to the intermediate or advanced level, we can also discuss some realities of the music business and opportunities for songwriters and musicians. I encourage you to be true to yourself, and can guide you further based on your intended use of and audience for your songs. 

2. Languages: First I will evaluate your level of Spanish and French through conversation and writing. Depending on your purpose -- business or travel -- we can focus on different vocabulary sets and exercises.
