About
Hello! I teach classical, jazz, and contemporary music in a fun and supportive environment at sliding scale rates. I help students get to know the instrument and achieve their personal goals. I studied at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music and have been teaching piano for over a decade. I've taught private lessons, group classes, online, and in-person to students ages 3 to adult.
Teaching Style
The corner stone of my teaching philosophy is flexibility. Lessons look different with each student depending on their interests and learning style. My goal with any student is to foster their love of music, give them the skills to advance, and most importantly build skills of emotional regulation and practice that will serve them in all areas of their life. For kids and adults, learning to do something difficult and stick with it while also enjoying the processes and be kind to yourself is the most important skill that I teach.
It’s exciting to see students play music that is more and more difficult, but the biggest wins I see are in their personal growth. When a student who tends to rush ahead and has a hard time focusing gains the self awareness to say “That was too fast, let me try again slower.” without being reminded OR a student who struggles with getting frustrated at the piano learns to identify their frustration early and voice when they need a break: those are the really exciting moments for me as a teacher. Those are the skills that I know will help my students in everything they do, whether piano becomes a lifelong passion or not.
