About
Emídio André Costa is one of the most talented clarinetists of his generation in Portugal.
He finished his Master's degree in performance at the Haute École de musique de Genève with the renowned professor Romain Guyot with the special award "Cardinaux".
He finished his bachelor at the National orchestra Academy in Lisbon with the professor Nuno Silva.
Won several first prizes in National and International competitions:
2018- IV APC International Clarinet Competition ed. António Saiote
2017- XII International Competition Terras de La Salette Classical Summer- Pascal Moragues class.
2016- VI APC National Competition ClarMeetPorto’16
2011 and 2013 – International Competition “Art and Education in the XXI Century”- Funchal.
He won the second prize at Murten Classics Festival competition.
He was invited as a soloist with several youth and professional orchestras like Madeira classical orchestra, “Filarmonia das beiras” Orchestra, etc.
He worked with several teachers ,national and internationally renowned clarinetists such as Carlos Alves, Antonio Saiote, Nuno Pinto, Nuno Silva, Arno Piters, Juan Ferrer, Javier Llopis,Olivier Patey, Eddy Vanoosthuyse, Mariano Rey, Romain Guyot, Yehuda Gilad and Pascal Moraguès .
He also has collaborated several times with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra and with the Madeira Classical Orchestra.
He was a member of the clarinet section ,two years in a row,of the “Estágio Gulbenkian para orquestra “, one of the most important youth orchestras in Portugal.
He worked with conductors such as Rodolfo Saglimbeni, Cesário Costa, Andre Martin, Pedro Neves, Rui Pinheiro, António Vitorino de Almeida, José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana , Jean Marc Burfin, António Saiote, Jan Wierzba, Joana
My teaching focus on the musician individual needs.
I'm very interested in the fundalmentals work such as the warm-up, scales and sound exercises because after that , the student can be focused on the music only. I can also help more advanced students in all their auditions.
Mistakes are part of the learning process and I like to get my students to understand that, so that learning clarinet and developing their skills can be a fun and fulfilling journey.
