About

Best known as the front woman of prog metal masters Sacrifice to Survive, Emily Aldridge has been brightening stages since 2009 with her high-powered vocals and emotional melodies.

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Emily infuses her dark pieces with big doses of reality as she sings about life’s many struggles and triumphs. Her music is quite the opposite from her bubbly and playful demeanor, yet it serves as a space of sanctuary and healing, in the magic of both writing and listening.

Emily spent her early years in the Midwest, singing and recording with her Dad, taking piano lessons and performing in every choir and musical theater production she could.

Equally important to her as writing and performing, Emily enjoys teaching students and coaching young DIY performers along their own musical career paths.

Emily moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2015 and began touring the winery circuit and festivals of the Pacific Northwest. With her acoustic guitar, she settled into a lovely rhythm of performing, creating and teaching in Portland, Oregon. She makes music alongside her partner Matt Stoops, film composer, producer, and the mastermind behind Sacrifice to Survive.

Ever the unpredictable musician, in 2019, Emily formed the all female rock band, Tall Dark Whimsy. This project features another chapter of her self-written tunes as they hit a riot grrrl’esque stride with 90’s grunge undertones. Tall Dark Whimsy’s latest single “The Stitcher” will release in late October 2021.

Emily collaborates with musicians and producers all over the world, singing and writing all styles of music and basking in the delightful process of creative partnership.

The more you know about your instrument, the more resources you’ll have in your toolkit as a musician!

I pair my performing and recording career with coaching the next generation of rock stars. Whether it’s boosting your piano technique or helping you self-accompany on guitar, I provide a roadmap to success. I offer lessons in voice, guitar and piano with performance opportunities for my students throughout the year.

Right now, I'm also giving singer-songwriter and musical theater workshops. With a background in all things music and dance, I'm able to navigate the personal goals of my students in multiple areas of performing arts.

Learning about music should be fun and interesting, keeping you curious at every turn! My students understand the fundamentals of their instrument (this includes proper technique), how to read and hear music and how to explore improvisation.
