Emily Champion
About
I've been playing trumpet for over 20 years, and started performing professionally at 13. At 17, I started playing with the Greater Rochester Jazz Orchestra. I specialize in jazz but I teach all styles including classical, Broadway musicals, rock and Latin. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Business from Nazareth College, and I'm proud to have studied with some of the best trumpet players in the world. I love all kinds of music, and teaching all ages. From beginners to professional adults, I enjoy helping students flourish and grow to accomplish their goals in playing trumpet.
Teaching Style
I adjust my teaching style to accommodate the student's learning style. I figure out what they know and what they need to work on, and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. It helps me to know if they are a visual learner that works best with theory and sight reading, or if they learn best by ear training. I make sure to incorporate work they enjoy to make their session something to look forward to, rather than something stressful. I value encouragement and positivity, and make sure the student is on the right path to achieve success.
