Emily Popkey
About
I am a bilingual educator committed to fostering cross-cultural connections through language.
Teaching Style
My teaching approach is focused on student-centered and interactive learning, where students are expected to actively participate in lessons. It's important for me to have a good rapport with my students and to provide positive feedback, even when they make mistakes, to foster a suitable learning environment. I also use scaffolding techniques in lessons to help students stay motivated during challenging tasks by simplifying them and making them more manageable and achievable. I integrate teaching techniques, such as instructional gestures, Total Physical Response (TPR), proper modeling, and graded language, to accommodate students at different proficiency levels. Additionally, I incorporate real-life objects (realia), fun games, and real-life conversations to make learning more engaging for the students.
Curriculum
I carefully choose authentic materials like literature, artwork, and music to create a strong connection between the content and the real-life experiences of the students. This approach aims to make the learning materials more relatable and engaging for the students.
