About

Keep active and healthy enjoying the benefits music brings to your emotional and mental life.

Hi, I'm Enrique and I have taught for 20 years in particular classes as well as group classes in Schools with people of all ages; from Children to Older, Beginners to Advanced. In the pasts few years I taught Guitar and Ukulele at Pomo Arts, Marpole, HillCrest and SouthArm Community Centers of Vancouver, BC. I also was a secondary and high school music teacher at Centro Universitario Americano del Estado de Morelos, Mexico for 5 years. You can see some of my student's reviews on my video.

My students acquired different skills like playing acoustic and electric guitar (Rythm and Lead), ukulele, keyboards (beginners), reading music, arrangement, improvisation, composition; performing at different festivals, and some of them enough motivated to initiate a professional career.

I studied classical guitar with guitarist Guillermo Flores Méndez, classical piano and electric guitar with private tutors, a technical career on modern guitar, a Masters Degree at Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos under the supervision of Mexican composer Manuel Rocha Iturbide , and some other courses on composition, performance, and jazz improvisation with renowned musicians as Dr. Julio Estrada, Dr. Mario Mary, Soprano Frances Lynch, and Roberto Aymes.

As a performer, I have played in cultural forums across Mexico, Palermo (Italy), and Canada such as the Latin Surrey, Make Music Edmonton, Astral Harvest, Polish, Fusion Surrey Festivals, and other local venues in Vancouver.

Besides my musical background, I've been involved in meditation, yoga and mental health (inner growth) for a long time. I completed a yoga teacher and a body psychotherapist training, and I've held workshops and conferences on "music/emotional/mental health" issues.

I teach based on your interests, expectations, and skills in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We can only focus on the technical aspects of playing the instrument or we can also tackle other subjects like music reading, modern harmony, improvisation, arrangement, composition, on different genres (rock, blues, pop, jazz, world, folk, reggae, fusion, etc). Singers and instrumentalists are also welcome if you're interested in those other subjects.

Teaching Method depends on your age, instrument, level and insterest. For kids, I have used Hall Leonard Guitar and Ukulele books , Ferdinand Beyer for piano,  Fast Track Keyboard Method as well as other fakebooks of pop, Disney music, etc.

For teens and adults ,  The Hall Leonard Guitar Method is very good,  The Royal Conservatory Series for Classical Guitar,  The Berklee Series for Guitar,  Dick Grove method for modern harmony, and some other books for improvisation. There are also a lot of very good European guitar methods as Emilio Pujol, Carcassi, Fernando Sor, etc.
