About

Hi! My name is Eric. I am a music therapist in Tampa, Florida. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy in December of 2015 and graduated with my Master of Music in Music Therapy in May of 2017, both from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. I have been part of the team at the Tampa Bay Institute for Music Therapy since May of 2017, where I work with people of all ages and abilities.

As a music therapist, I am both a fully trained therapist and a fully trained musician. I play the guitar, the piano, and I sing; additionally, I use music and music theory concepts in my work every day. My training and experience help me stand out in that I am not your typical music teacher! I have training and experience in adapting musical concepts to maximize understanding for my students/clients, working with those who have special needs and/or exceptionalities, and setting students/clients up for success.

Although I do not perform for my livelihood, I have plenty of experience performing! I have been involved in community musical theatre since I was young; additionally, I have been in many choirs and performing ensembles, including a show choir, a Jazz choir, university choral ensembles, and community music groups. For a taste of my personal style, here are some videos of me singing and playing guitar, piano, and a parody of a popular song. I look forward to exploring music with you!

I teach using a strengths-based approach, meaning I assess and utilize my student's strengths and learning styles when introducing and teaching content. I adapt lessons and teaching strategies to meet each student where they are, which sets them up for success!

Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) since 2016 and Member of the American Music Therapy Association since 2013
