About
Eric Johnson is a Los Angeles based woodwind instrumentalist, composer, and producer. He can be seen performing in local jazz venues as well as with Chicano soul powerhouse group Thee Sinseers. While earning his master's degree in jazz and improvisational music from University of Nevada Reno, he was awarded a graduate teaching assistant position working with undergraduate jazz ensembles. Eric's passion for teaching is infectious and has led to helping students break through barriers and become strong musicians with a lifetime appreciation of music.
As a student of Kenny Werner I subscribe to the effortless mastery school of music study. With a patient and attentive attitude students can learn and perform anything they're up to the task of accomplishing whether that be a difficult musical passage or getting over performance anxiety. Together we find what the student is interested in and break down exact ways to master that style or difficult passage. Through this process we not only accomplish tasks that feel unobtainable, the efforts we put forth translate to all other aspects of music as well any real world situations in and out of a musical context.

Two years studying Effortless Mastery with Kenny Werner
Education materials are depndent on the students interests and abilities. I encourage students to play through materials that have historical context for their instrument in addition to transcription (learning by ear) and composing original music. Having these tools allow the student the freedom to go in any direction their interests will guide them.
