Eric Olson
About
I am an elementary school teacher in Rhode Island with a degree in music. My first instrument was guitar, which I can play at a professional level. I am comfortable teaching: jazz, jazz fusion, metal (currently in a metal band!), rock, progressive rock/metal, and classical guitar. In addition, I have 10 years of experience teaching: advanced piano (classical primarily), intermediate drums, ukulele, bass guitar, voice, and music theory.
Teaching Style
As a teacher, I try to make the lesson feel as comfortable and low-stress as possible. It is my belief that if lessons are geared towards the interests of students, then students will have more success, and, most importantly, fun. I of course have strong recommendations for techniques and knowledge which I have found to be incredibly useful for navigating learning a musical instrument, but I will not force something that a student is adamant that they do not want to learn.
Curriculum
Generally speaking, my lessons look like this: 1. technique, scales, and music theory/general music knowledge on the instrument 2. reading/song(s) of your choice 3. (If there's no interest in reading) song(s) of your choice/learning to improvise (jam) on your instrument.
Piano Books: Alfred Piano
Guitar: Hal Leonard (beginner) Berkeley Guitar Books (intermediate to advanced)
