About

Lessonface Flute and Piccolo Teacher of the Year for 2022 and 2021, Overall Teacher of the Year for 2021, and Flute Teacher of the Year for 2020, and 2019, over 5400 lessons booked on Lessonface.   Hello!  My name is Erika Andres and I have a passion for teaching and playing the flute and piccolo.  I teach both school-aged students and adults, from the complete beginner to the advanced musician.  I have taught both beginner classes to students as young as the age of five all the way to advanced students in college and to adult amateurs.  Additionally, I have been a teaching assistant where I taught undergraduate flute majors and am currently a professor of music appreciation.  Also, I have intensely studied flute pedagogy.  I am comfortable teaching students of any age and level.

I received my Master's degree in flute performance at Florida State University, and I hold a Bachelor's degree in flute performance and music composition.  I have played both flute and piccolo in many orchestras and bands, given many recitals, played as the soloist on the performance of my own band transcription of a concerto, participated in masterclasses of many prestigious flutists, and played at flute conventions including the National Flute Association convention and the Florida Flute Association convention .

Please see my website skyeflutemusic.com for additional information about me as well as a flute blog and sample video lessons.  Or see my YouTube channel for examples of my teaching and playing .

Please see "Curriculum" below for a free downloadable exercise and video tutorial for intermediate+ students!

If the open lessons times do not work for you, please email me for additional availability.

Making music is a vital part of life and any education, so I strive to create an enjoyable and safe environment where the student can learn and develop their innate music-making abilities.  Every student is unique, and I always try to cater to his/her individual needs and interests.  However, there are certain fundamentals that every flutist should know.  I try to ensure that my students obtain a proficient technique as well as a mature sound.  They need to learn core repertoire and to play a variety of music, both classical and modern.    I believe that musicians' health is very important and that all of my students develop healthy playing techniques.  I also believe that my students should be exposed to contemporary techniques, as these techniques help the students to not only play contemporary music but also to help improve their sound when playing classical music.  And flutists should also be well-rounded musicians, so I endeavor to increase their knowledge of music history and theory as they go along as well.

I greatly enjoy teaching.  It is always a rewarding experience for me, and I try to make it one for my students as well!

Class: Flute with Erika Andres

Erika Andres flute Go class is great fun. Since this is a group class, it is also a community. I get to hear other students’ ideas and questions. We all encourage and support each other. Ms. Erika’s knowledge is amazing. She has detailed knowledge and experience with all flute topics. The most inspiring thing about Ms. Erika is that she is always positive, encouraging and makes each class fun. If you want to learn more about all flute topics and improve your playing skill, this is the class. After a long week, when Saturday arrives, I need a break! I need to have fun! I need to hang out with a fun group of people! I can guarantee this will be the most fun you have ever had playing flute! If you think I am exaggerating, try a class. You will thank me.
