About

Eugene Shapiro is a guitarist, composer, arranger, bandleader/manager, and educator. He holds a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and teaches guitar for the College of Southern Nevada (CSN).  Eugene is proficient in many styles of music, such as Traditional Swing Jazz, Latin Jazz, Fusion/Funk,  Smooth Jazz, Jazz-rock, Rock, Pop, R&B, Blues, Jazz, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Progressive Rock, as well as Songwriting, Composition, Improvisation, and Music Fundamentals/Musis Theory.

Eugene Shapiro also leads a Las Vegas based Jazz quartet called the Shapiro Project. The Shapiro Project has three albums to their credit with his original compositions, “True Colors” (TNC Jazz Recordings) and “Open Road" (C&P), and "Planet X" (C&P). Eugene Shapiro and the Shapiro Project have appeared at many music and Jazz festivals, including Spirit of Music Festival in San Francisco, CA, Lionel Hampton Jazz festival in Moscow, ID, Fremont Street Jazz Festival in Las Vegas, NV, and the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference (IAJE) in Los Angeles, CA.

Eugene Shapiro is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). He has received numerous awards from the Nevada Arts Council, including two Fellowships in Jazz Composition in 2004 and 2010, ASCAPLUS Jazz and Pop awards, and an honorable mention in the Billboard Songwriting Contest. Eugene is a published author of the “Beginning Guitar Book” (Kendall Hunt Publishing).

He has shared the stage with such renowned Jazz musicians and composers as Michel Legrand, Walt Weiskopf, Carl Fontana, Art Van Damme, Jiggs Wigham, Ed Soph, Stefan Karlsson, and Tom Warrington.

Eugene Shapiro is endorsed by Thomastik-Infeld strings, Martin Guitars, Radial Engineering Ltd., and AMT Electronics.

Over 30 years of experience in teaching on every level: College of Southern Nevada, recreational centers, music stores, private lessons, master classes, educational outreach with Nevada Arts Council and The Smith Center.
