Evan Hagen
About
Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. My father is a band teacher and choral conductor, and my mother is a piano teacher and church pianist/organist. I started horn when I was 12, and I first started conducting in High School.
I studied at Central Washington University with Dr. Jeffrey Snedeker, former president of the International Horn Society. While at CWU, I regularly performed with the top large-ensembles: the revered Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra. I mostly played low horn (2nd and 4th chairs), and was principal of the Orchestra 2019-2020. I also performed with an award-winning undergraduate horn quartet, the "Four Corners" quartet. I would say that low horn is a specialty and a personal favorite of mine.
It is impossible to play the horn if you are unhealthily self-critical, especially during performances. Since the horn is notoriously difficult and treacherous, I encourage not only musical and technical dedication, but relaxing of the body, air-efficiency, and the cultivation of growth-mindset and self-forgiveness.
