About

I'm a guitar player and music educator from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I've been teaching guitar for the last 20 years, guiding in my private lessons all levels of students, from beginners to professionals. I have a master's degree in Music Education from the University of Sao Paulo, where I graduated in Music. I also studied Electric Guitar and Music Arrangement, Instrumentation and Orchestration at the Music School of the State of São Paulo.

My instrumental formation comprises classical and jazz guitar. I love teaching brazilian genres such as bossa nova, choro, MPB and brazilian jazz. I also have a large experience in playing blues, rock n'roll, pop and cuban music. In my career, I've played with many groups in Sao Paulo, such as big bands, jazz combos, choro groups, rock n'roll bands, salsa orchestras, theatre groups, accompanying singers and also playing solo guitar.

My instruments are the acoustic guitar (spanish guitar), the electric guitar, the cavaquinho, the ukulele and the cuban tres. My right hand technique includes playing with the fingers, based on the tradition of the classical guitar, and with the plectrum, more associated with the electric guitar playing.

Among the guitar masters I had the opportunity to study with are Paulo Martelli and Edelton Gloeden (classical guitar); Olmir Stocker, Djalma Lima, Fernando Correa, Marcus Teixeira and Conrado Paulino (jazz guitar/brazilian jazz). I joined for 12 years the team of the brazilian Guitar Player magazine and nowadays I collaborate with the Acervo Digital do Violão Brasileiro (Digital Collection of the Brazilian Guitar), a website devoted to the brazilian guitar.

I believe that everyone is capable of playing an instrument. My classes are personalized and my purpose is to collaborate not only with the instrument learning itself, including technical and interpretative aspects, but with the student's musical development in a wide way combining practicing with reflection, stimulating them to be each time more autonomous in their musical processes.

As a teacher, I try to look to the musical interest of each one to build lesson strategies that would be efficient, pleasurable and interesting for them. In the first class, I do a short interview to verify what the students are aiming for, asking about their favorite music styles, what they would like to play, their guitar references, if they would like to concentrate more on guitar accompanying, soloing or improvisation; if there is interest in theoretical subjects such as reading/writing, harmony, music analysis, and so on. After that, I draw a plan, which is always open to be reviewed according to the new interests that would emerge with the elapse of the lessons.
