About
I am a lifetime musician and long-time private music instructor. I started teaching lessons in high school on the recommendation of my band director - before I could drive a car! I have 24+ years of experience in one-on-one instruction and have taught a broad range of students both in terms of age, experience, and background. I am a flautist by training but a true doubler, having performed in numerous musical pit orchestras as Reed 1 (including, flute, piccolo, clarinet, and saxophone).
Education: Bachelor of Music in Music Education, University of Rhode Island (Class of 2005, summa cum laude); undeclared minor in jazz studies
Productions: Guys & Dolls, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Grease, Hello Dolly
Current and Prior Teaching Assignments: Upper Valley Music Center, More Than Music, Knapp School of Music, St. George's School, Lincoln School
I cater my lessons to each student. I am well-versed in traditional music theory as well as improvisational techniques. My overall philosophy is that music is available to anyone who is interested - no matter their skill level. I enjoy working with students to build their foundational skills and engaging with music that is meaningful to them.
Bachelor of Music in Music Education - awarded 2005, summa cum laude, from the University of Rhode Island
I use various methods depending on each student. For flute, I am a fan of the Trevor Wye series. I also use Rubank extensively for flute, clarinet, and saxophone. I enjoy working with students to find the right match for their skill level and abilities.
