About

As a recent graduate from Berklee College of Music, Francis has quickly ventured to Vancouver to continue career as a  musician. He started performing professionally in the Philippines in 2012, co-founding bands like The 2 Day Rush and performing with other musicians as well. Studying under the private instruction of Ethan Andrew Ventura gave him the confidence to perform in bigger stages and teach music as well. He started teaching guitar in 2015 and has been teaching since, both physical and online lessons. In 2016, he got accepted in Berklee Online, Berklee's online extension. After graduating in 2019, he moved to Vancouver where he continues to perform and teach music. Currently working on his debut album, Francis seeks to impart the experiences and wisdom he has gained along his way by bringing out the artistry in each individual through his music.

I constantly adjust my teaching style that is most accommodating to the students' needs. I give out personal notes for the student to follow. When I recommend books, it usually is for enhancing techniques and fundamentals. For the most part, I tell stories that easily relates to the lesson at hand.

I tend to focus on building up a student's repertoire list. I see to it that all technical and fundamental aspects I teach to the students, such as chord inversions, scales, arpeggios, etc., must be usable in a musical setting. The repertoire would now depend on the students' interests and preferences while mixing them up with my own repertoire. In addition, I seek to determine aspects in students' playing which would help them help themselves. I believe that it is in the practice room where we would spend most of our time in learning the instrument, hence; I want to make sure that the students get to enjoy practicing, and not see them as chores.

These are the areas I focus on along the duration of the students' lessons:

- Repertoire/Performance

- Arpeggios, Scales, Chord Inversions

- Ear Training

- Reading

-Improvisation & Composition

-Transcribing

-Reharmonization

- Home Recording

BOOKS:

(I do not usually give out books at the beginning lessons since there is not one book that is applicable to any situation. But here are books that I use and personally recommend.)

For beginners, I recommend Hal Leonard's Guitar Method book.

For intermediate to advanced players, I recommend William Leavitt's Modern Method for Guitar, Melodic Rhythms for Guitar, and Mick Goodrick's The Advancing Guitarist.

For Jazz Guitar, I recommend Jody Fisher's The Complete Jazz Guitar MethodJoe Pass' Jazz Line, and Jen Larsen's Modern Jazz Guitar Concepts and Advanced Jazz Guitar Concepts.

For Classical Guitar, I recommend Frederick Noad Solo Guitar Playing Vol. 1 and 2.
