Fred Hollingsworth is a teacher, audio engineer and VJ based in the North East of England. He graduated from The University of Huddersfield in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) in Music Technology and Audio Systems. He immediately started working at a sound engineer and studio technician at Newcastle University and began teaching Musical Materials, Studio Recording, Production and Studio Composition a year later. Fred has written and assessed modules for hundreds of students, with thousands of hours of contact time.
In his career, Fred has: recorded, mixed and mastered albums; recorded, edited and mixed podcasts; been a radio presenter; run sound for large festivals; performed live visuals for many popular DJs; been an event promoter, taught on music degrees and done lighting for theatre shows.
Fred is also an Avid Certified Instructor, and can deliver sessions in preparation for the Pro Tools 100 and 110 exams.
I like to teach by finding the holes in your current knowledge and filling them in. I’m happy to teach anyone – from absolute beginners to industry professionals wanting to hone their skills. My 15 minute free lesson will be spent assessing your level, what your experience is and what you’d like to get out of paid lessons with me.
I consider learning to be a dialogue, rather than one-way and didactic. Whilst I might deliver information for a chunk of time, I also expect that you will have questions which you want to have answered, or that we will work through problems and obstacles to your learning together.
I primarily use and teach Pro Tools. However I’m happy to advise on other DAWs, and many of the techniques and processes I teach in this software can be transferred to Logic, Ableton, Reaper or other DAWs with ease.
