About
I am Gaurangi Aalambayan, a dedicated professional violist and violinist, and cellist, driven by a passion for music and a commitment to excellence. My musical journey began with the completion of the 8th grade exam at the prestigious Trinity College of London, laying a solid foundation for my future endeavors. Over the course of 13 years, I have had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of world-class teachers, refining my technique and developing my unique teaching style. My dedication has afforded me opportunities to perform with esteemed orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestras of India, Goa String Orchestra, Stuti String Ensemble, and Bangalore City Chamber Orchestra. Sharing the stage with legendary maestros like Zubin Mehta and accompanying icons such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Niladrei Kumar, and Rakesh Chaurasia has been a highlight of my career, showcasing my versatility and artistry. I have also had the honor of participating in renowned music festivals including the Sufi Music Festival at NCPA with the band "Maati Baani," Monte Music Festival, and Paschim Rang Music Festival. Beyond performing, I am deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians. My teaching experience includes imparting knowledge at the Child's Play India Foundation and providing private lessons. In my teaching philosophy, I prioritize a holistic approach, incorporating theory, solfeggio, technique, and musicality to provide students with a comprehensive musical education. With a focus on fostering both technical proficiency and expressive interpretation, I aim to instill a deep appreciation for music in all my students, empowering them to realize their full potential in the world of music.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is structured yet flexible, focusing on strong fundamentals, tone production, and musical expression. I tailor each lesson to the student’s level and goals, whether they are beginners or advanced players, while maintaining a disciplined and encouraging learning environment.
Curriculum
In my classes, I structure our sessions into four main parts, each crucial for the holistic development of my students:
1. **Technique and Posture**: The foundation of violin/viola/cello playing lies in proper technique and posture. In this segment, we focus on refining these fundamental aspects to enhance skills and prevent injuries. Through targeted exercises and personalized guidance, students learn to achieve optimal performance posture and technique.
2. **Musical Interpretation**: Playing songs and pieces goes beyond mere notes on a page; it's about conveying emotions and telling stories through music. In this segment, we delve into the interpretation and musicality of Western classical pieces. Students learn how to express the nuances and emotions embedded in the music, honing their ability to connect with listeners on a deeper level.
3. **Music Theory**: A strong foundation in music theory is essential for comprehensive musicianship. In this part of the class, we explore music theory concepts, including note reading, rhythm, harmony, and form. Understanding these principles not only enhances students' ability to read and analyze music but also provides valuable insight into the structure and composition of music.
4. **Solfeggio**: Solfeggio, or sight-singing, is a vital skill for musicians, particularly for intonation and sight-reading. In this segment, students learn solfeggio exercises to develop their ear training, pitch accuracy, and sight-reading abilities. By mastering solfeggio, students lay a solid foundation for accurate intonation and fluent sight-reading, essential skills for becoming proficient musicians.
By incorporating these four components into my teaching methodology, I aim to provide my students with a comprehensive and well-rounded musical education. Whether they aspire to become professional musicians or simply enjoy playing for personal fulfillment, these elements form the building blocks of their musical journey, empowering them to reach their full potential as musicians.
