Genevieve Eckel

Coming from the quaint beach town of San Clemente California, Genevieve's musical journey started as a multi-instrumentalist. Starting with Piano, then moving to Guitar, teaching herself bass as well as ukulele, and percussion. She had an original band in high school called Couch Party, where she wrote the songs while her best friend wrote the lyrics. In community college she frequently played bass with a reggae band called Entropy at local venues. With an increasing appetite to experience and learn more about music Genevieve moved up to Northern California and attended San Jose State University where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Composition, studying with Dr. Pablo E. Furman. While studying there she got her first commissioned film score for a documentary, Ambassador of God, as well as a commission from the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, A Journey, to the Center. From that moment she knew what she wanted to do with her career, which was to pursue composing music to accompany a visual story. Her music has always been inspired by a narrative so enhancing a piece of visual media with the music in her head, the glove fit perfectly. From there, Genevieve moved across the country to attend New York University to earn her Master of Music in Scoring for Film and Multimedia, studying with Mike Patterson, Ira Newborn, Irwin Fisch, and Mark Suozzo. "My music has not only brought me great personal sense of joy but it has brought me to incredible locations to meet very interesting people with a common goal to further artistic enrichment and entertainment through music." 

Each student is a unique entity in terms of learning style, musical goals, and creative experience. Therefore, each student is provided a tailor made lesson plan to help them achieve their goals. There are general theoretical concepts that are provided to the student to create a transcendent understanding of music, concepts that are paramount to their musical experience whether they wish to be an instrumental performer, composer, songwriter, or sound designer/engineer. Music is something that cannot be seen or touched, it is felt and the human experience of creating music is highly subjective. Subjectivity is a beautiful concept that makes music the majestic art form that we all know and love. Basic musical concepts lay a foundation for a student to delve into their creativity and expand their horizons on levels that they may have never thought feasible. Empowering the student to confidently explore this highly creative realm of "painting on silence" is what's most important throughout the learning stages for each and every student. Creating a safe space to conceptualize and explore music is imperative to a successful learning experience.
