About

I am the Assistant Director of Bands at Abilene Christian University, where I direct the Big Purple Basketball Band, co-teach the Big Purple Marching Band, co-teach both concert bands, and assist with program development and recruiting. I am also the Director of Music at Elmwood West United Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas, where I direct the choir, church orchestra, and maintain the choir scholarship fund.

I am the product of the Texas music system, having gone to primary and secondary school in the Dallas area at Sachse High School. I graduated from Abilene Christian University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. I received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and made the Texas 5A (now 6A) All-State Band while attending Sachse High School, and received the Texas Association of Music Schools’ distinguished Clara Freshour Nelson Scholarship for best college freshman audition in the state of Texas while attending ACU.

While in school, I was the principal or lead trombone in the Wind Ensemble, ACU Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Abilene, Jazz Band, Big Purple Marching Band, and Basketball Pep Band. I have performed in numerous settings, from the pit orchestra of the musicals White Christmas, Mary Poppins, Man of La Mancha, and CATS, and the opera Hansel and Gretel, to the stage with pop groups like The Temptations.

Professional organizations include TMEA, TBA, and CBDNA.

Teaching Style

I have been trained in instrumental music education, primarily with a band focus, so my teaching style is that of a band director. After years of band directing experience, my style could be characterized as relaxed, but high-achieving.

Curriculum

For trombone and euphonium, I primarily use the Arban's Method for Trombone, but pull from many different sources. These different sources will be provided free of charge.

For music theory, I primarily use the Ottman Elementary and Advanced theory textbooks. I recommend purchasing the Elementary workbook in addition to the main textbook. I also pull from different sources, which will be provided if used.

For acoustic guitar, there is no primary source I use, and nothing to purchase.
