About

George Pittaway, is a multi-instrumentalist and teacher specializing in electric and acoustic guitar, and bass.  George spent the early ‘80’s as major- label recording artist himself, founding the College Radio- dominating band 4 out of 5 Doctors.  Major-venue touring/performing  credits include tours with The Clash, The Cars, Hall & Oates, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Pat Travers, UFO, even Screamin' Jay Hawkins, to name a few.

George spent the last three years teaching guitar, bass, and band, at his local music  academy. “During that time, I was fortunate enough to bring in major-name, platinum-selling artists/producers to mentor my younger students, whom they recognized as exceptional.”

Application of George’s musical skills were honed by major record producers, including Jeff Glixman (Kansas, Black Sabbath, KISS) Alan Winstanley (Bush, Elvis Costello, Morrissey), Bil VornDick (Allison Krauss, Bob Dylan, Ricky Skaggs).

George has performed on numerous film scores, and was contracted by the U.S. Department of Defense to compose the commemorative film score for their Bi-Centennial of the US Constitution in 1988-89.   He published his instructional article “Essentials for the Successful Band” for Guitarnoise, and Guitar World Online in 2009.

George also created a specialized teaching method that focuses on lead guitar derived from simple folk-picking patterns.  This effort garnered George a top-selling instructional DVD followed by a Full U.S. patent award for teaching hi-speed guitar picking.  This effort has now garnered George a grant to pursue these sciences.

“What gets me going is the student’s playing, not mine. I use a lot of advanced technique in my own playing and love to teach those skills, but at the same time, I also get novice players up and playing very, very quickly.”

George also worked at Music Educator’s National Conference (MENC), and is a music industry veteran at the international trade level, including a stint representing  U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair’s music industry and artist promotion efforts in the USA.

“I have experience teaching the minutest, fine musical technique up to and including the 50,000 foot view of overall musicality. This effectively eliminates musically limiting blind alleys the student might otherwise encounter ”.

George tailors each lesson to the needs of the student. Skills taught include most every style of acoustic and electric guitar, bass, songwriting, song dissection, scales, fingerpicking/fingerstyle, band/artist development, and production.

I’ve developed a lot of tradecraft, (maybe even trade secrets ha ha) to do this, and to teach you, so book a lesson!

I tailor each lesson to the needs of the student. But I always teach with a custom, proprietary skills-matrix in mind (one suitable to program AI systems). Nevertheless,  I'm very lighthearted and never negative. I'm recognized as very expert at detecting which motor skills presented by a student are most likely to be quickly harnessed into instrumental technique and relevant knowledge.
