Gian Hernandez

I began learning American Sign Language (ASL) as a child to communicate with my Deaf friends, and it quickly became a significant part of my life. Growing up around Deaf peers, ASL felt like a second language to me, shaping my understanding of communication and culture.

With over 20 years of experience using ASL and more than a decade of teaching it, I specialize in helping students of all levels build confidence and fluency. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that empowers students to connect meaningfully through ASL. While I also hold TEFL/TESOL certification and have taught English, my true passion lies in sharing the beauty and depth of ASL.

My teaching style focuses on learning through meaningful conversation rather than simply reviewing vocabulary. I believe that engaging in real-life dialogue helps students build confidence and retain what they’ve learned. I’m flexible in adapting to each student’s needs and goals, and I strive to create a fun, happy, and supportive learning environment where everyone feels comfortable and motivated to succeed.
