Gita Vata Leon
About
Gita is a professional flutist and teacher, originally from the Canary Islands, Spain. She graduated from her bachelor’s and master’s degree at Conservatorium van Amsterdam with professors Kersten McCall, Vincent Cortvrint and Mariya Semotyuk.
She is a second price winner in the Youth Competition of the International Bach Festival and a semi-finalist in the Dutch International Flute Competition.
She is also part of two active ensembles, Ut Kwintet (woodwind quintet) and Haizea Trio (woodwind trio). They are always creating new projects and performing in The Netherlands and abroad.
Orchestra experience is also part of her curriculum. During the years, she has performed with several professional orchestras both in Spain and The Netherlands.
Gita is a versatile multidisciplinary artist. She incorporates movement and singing in her performances, often collaborating with fellow artists to create new and authentic concert programes.
She is also co-founder and Artistic Director of OnAlti Academy, an institution that organizes international music courses held in The Netherlands. These events attract musicians from all over the world.
Teaching Style
As a pedagogue, Gita is enthusiastic and energetic. Her motivation to teach makes her a very fun teacher who is pleased with her students' achievements and improvements.
Her teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to have fun through music learning and enjoy the flute's beautiful possibilities. She works on both technical and musical aspects from an enjoyable perspective.
Gita pays special attention to creating a personalized education and experience for every one of her students. She also gives additional tools applicable to the flute playing which includes: The Inner Game of Music, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Body & Mind. All the basic theory is taught too.
She is experienced with both children and adults, beginners and advanced.
