About

Green Bouzard is a versatile classical violinist, fiddle player, pianist, songwriter,  improviser, and cross-genre musician with 25 years' experience playing the violin and 14 years' experience teaching violinists and violists of all ages and abilities. Green has played the piano for nearly 30 years, and has taught piano lessons for 18. Green is trained with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and has certificates for Every Child Can and Violin/Viola Unit 1.

Green's original Americana music duo Free Winona (fka Winona Forever) has toured nationally, debuting at SXSW in 2018 and performing with such Americana-stalwarts as Charlie Parr, Jon Langford, Walter Salas-Humara, Carrie Rodriguez, and Jon Dee Graham. Free Winona opened for Grammy-award winner Marc Cohn at the historic Englert Theater (Iowa City, IA) in November 2018. Free Winona also won second place in the 2017 Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association duet competition at the Minnesota State Fair. Green also plays regularly with the nationally touring orchestra folk-rock ensemble Dewi Sant (Northfield, MN) and the alt-country band Wesley Church and the Fabulous Vanguards (Northfield, MN). Green has also played with acclaimed Minneapolis pop-rock ensemble Sister Species, Andy Ulseth (Minneapolis, MN), The Holy Broke (Spokane, WA; Best Songwriter, Bartlett Awards), Terrible Buttons (Spokane, WA; Best Local Band, The Inlander Magazine; Sommy Award Winner),  and &Yet (Seattle, WA, featuring Sommy Award Winner Dane Ueland).

Green is an experienced violinist in sacred music settings. In addition to playing for contemporary and traditional worship settings, she has played with the St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Orchestra (Mahtomedi, MN),  the St. John's Lutheran Church Music Series  (Minneapolis, MN), Eagle Brook Church (Anoka and Blaine, MN), and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (Minneapolis, MN). A founding member of the Watercress Trio, Green is an experienced chamber music player, and has played at countless weddings and events.

Green graduated from St. Olaf College in 2011, where she studied violin with Andrea Een (Minnesota Opera Orchestra; Founder of the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America) and Ray Shows (Artaria String Quartet) and played for four years in the St. Olaf Orchestra, including as the principle second violinist, under the direction of Dr. Steven Amundson and Tito Munoz.

Green teaches classical violin and viola, fiddling styles, violin for rock and pop, beginning and intermediate piano, and has taught at Blackbird Music (Minneapolis, MN) and MacFarland's Music (Northfield, MN). She independently teaches a diverse slate of students in person and online. She has experience working with beginners to advanced players, and teaches both children and adults.  Whether you are just beginning your adventure with the violin, fiddle, viola, or piano, or have been playing for years, Green is excited to work with you to expand your musical horizons!

I incorporate a variety of musical styles into my teaching practice to instill instrument fundamentals, technique, music theory, and artistry. My teaching philosophy emphasizes developing a strong foundation of technique, musicality, and music theory, while allowing students to explore their musical interests and a wide range of styles, including classical repertoire, fiddling styles, rock and pop, composition, and improvisation. We can incorporate any number of genres into your lesson, or just focus on one!

I hold certificates for Every Child Can and Violin/Violin Unit 1 from the Suzuki Association of the Americas. I incorporate Suzuki repertoire and teaching approach for those who are interested in this form of study.
