About

My name is Ian Niblack. I am an 18 year old musician. My main instrument is the drum-set which I have been playing for over 10 years. I picked up keyboard when I began producing music on Logic about 5 years ago. I can also get around a little bit on bass.

I went to Berklee College of Music at 17, where I was graced by the presence of people like Trey Graves, Cisco Swank, and Leonardo Varella to name a few. After covid, my plan for my college career changed drastically, and I probably will not continue with Berklee because I am ready to focus on my own artistry. My goal is to sustain myself just from music, because I feel like that would be my ultimate freedom. I have always loved helping people and watching people grow, so naturally I am going the route of being a freelance music teacher.

To give you an idea of the kind of musician I am, here are my main inspirations for drums: Mike Mitchell (Blaque Dynamite), JD Beck, Chris Dave, Louis Cole, etc.

Some of my main inspirations for my production are: J dilla, knxwledge, Iman Omari, Oh Gosh Leotus, Vohn Beats, Mike & Keys, etc.

Some of my favorite overall artists are: Tyler the creator, Bryson Tiller, Robert Glasper, Gwen Bunn, Mid-air Thief, Clark and the Community, etc.

I have played countless gigs and church services/events, gone to many drum sheds, and I have engineered/produced many songs for people. To get a better idea of my sound, here is a link to my SoundCloud, where you can find a large portion of my discography: https://soundcloud.com/naiblack

My teaching style is an easy-going one. I like to get to know the student, who they are, what they like, and most importantly, where they're at musically. I like to teach as I go, developing a personalized lesson for each student based on their needs and their desires regarding music with each lesson. I try to find ways of encouraging my students to get better on their own terms, essentially, I attempt to instill my same passion and drive for music in my students. In a way, I would consider myself more of a musical guide than anything because it's your journey, I am simply there to help you along the way, especially because I know how difficult it can be without an outsider perspective and constructive criticism. Don't worry though, I won't make you feel criticized. My goal is to not feel like a teacher, but more like that cool guy you work on your music with.

In person: Can be at your studio/music space, or mine depending on student preference. I can also do zoom lessons.
