About

James Peterson is a classically trained double bassist and pianist, holding degrees from both the Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  James also has been performing on guitar and bass guitar for the past ten years, playing styles ranging from bluegrass to rock to jazz. On any given week you can find James playing with a symphony orchestra, musical pit band, chamber ensemble or even a rock band.

Throughout his teaching career James has taught both privately and through music schools.  James has also served as the Assistant Conductor for multiple youth symphony orchestras.  James has experience with all levels of musician, ranging from 5 year old beginners to students preparing for conservatory auditions.

James caters the curriculum to the student. Depending on what their end goal is with the instrument, various methods ranging from learning by ear to doing a structured method book system can be applied.  James likes to put an emphasis on always walking away from a lesson with a tangible new skill. The philosophy is that the more the student can see and hear their own progress, the more desire they have to put in practice and effort.
