About
I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's degree in music therapy, and became a board certified music therapist in 2015. I have experience working with various populations with a range of diagnoses, however I specialize in working with children and adults with special needs. I have studied voice, piano, ukulele and guitar for over 20 years, focusing on pop, folk, classic rock, and musical theater. I currently teach guitar, ukulele, voice, and songwriting at a music school in New Jersey, specializing in teaching piano & voice to young children, as well as students who experience difficulties learning in typical settings. I am also a singer-songwriter and a member of the New York based band Boyband.
Teaching Style
I am currently a music teacher at a music school in New Jersey called So.i.Heard Music, where I teach multiple instruments. My students range in age from 4 to 45, I specifically work with beginner / intermediate students who may experience difficulties learning in a neuro-typical setting. I also utilize fun games, colors, xylophones, sing-a-longs into my lessons to help teach music theory and sight-reading. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a BA, and became a certified music therapist (2015) and a certified neurologic music therapist (2017). I like to use songs that students already know, or want to learn in my lessons. My biggest goal for students is to get them to sing while playing piano, as well as write music
Curriculum
I typically teach out of the Bastien Primer series for piano. For voice I typically follow students' lead and choose songs they are familiar with, pulling chords from Ultimate Guitar for accompaniment. I also use Ultimate Guitar for ukulele chords, and have also used the website Ukebuddy.
