About

I'm an enthusiastic, passionate teacher who appreciates the uniqueness and originality of any interested student.  I've been teaching private lessons and running clinics for fifteen years, teaching a multitude of genres. I make it a priority to cater lessons to the interests of each individual student. I work with students ages seven to adult.

From the first lesson, the most important aspect of teaching is ensuring that the student is attaining the goals he/she is most excited about. If the student is enthusiastic and driven, the rest falls into place naturally. That's the way it's been for the students I've taught, and the way it began for myself. I make sure to celebrate the student's accomplishments and victories, but also address any points or facets of their performance that they could improve upon. Listening to, appreciating, and eventually understanding artists, be it Handel, Miles Davis, Elvis, or Coldplay, is a vital part of my teaching style. Inspiration is born from interest, and practice from passion.

I received my Bachelor's Degree from College Park, School of Music, with a jazz emphasis. I've directed music history and theory courses at College Park, and have performed on BET television, at the UDC Jazz Festival, played lead cornet in Andrew Greene's Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra, and am currently the brass and jazz instructor at St. John's Episcopal School.
