Jessica Key
About
Originally from Aiken, South Carolina, Oboist Jessica Key is a current senior at the Mannes School of Music, pursing her B.M. in Oboe Performance. Her passion for music led her to New York City where she currently studies with the acting principal oboist of the New York Philharmonic, Sherry Sylar. While being a conservatory student, Jessica has performed at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Lynch Theater at John Jay College with the Mannes Opera, City Center with the Martha Graham Dance Company, and the Brooklyn Museum with members of the Metropolitan Opera. She has also performed in masterclasses for Richard Killmer, Elaine Douvas, Katherine Needleman, Max Blair, Pedro Diaz, Mark Ostoich, Scott Bell, and the Imani Winds.
When she is not practicing or making reeds, Jessica enjoys yoga, reading, playing chess, and spending time with those closest to her.
Teaching Style
I am new to teaching. I am excited to share what I have learned as a conservatory student in New York City! I have eight years of experience in music theory as I received a 5 on both the aural and written parts of the exam. I also have 5 years of experience in ear training techniques, along with ten years of training on the oboe.
My approach for teaching will be as hands on as possible.
