About

Hello and welcome! I am a professional flutist and teacher currently based in Boston. I discovered my passion for sharing music with others through teaching when I began teaching in 2017. Since then, I have taught flute students ages 7-adult of all ability levels, both in individual lessons and in group settings. I aim to teach supportive lessons individually suited to each student’s current goals and ability level.

As a performer, I currently enjoy playing with the Du Bois Orchestra, Horizon Ensemble, and the Lynch/Puente Duo, a flute and percussion duo which has performed at the Moby Dick Marathon in New Bedford, the Brasswood Inn in Provincetown, and the Cortona Sessions for New Music. I earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music from West Chester University and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee respectively, and while there I explored a variety of styles and ensembles, performing works from the Baroque era on the historical flute, contemporary classical music, and all eras in between.

Every lesson I teach is individually tailored to a student’s goals, current ability level, and personality; however, I have a few goals that I hope for all of my students to achieve. First, I hope for all my students to experience joy creating music! I believe that music can be an enriching part of everyone’s lives, and I help my students achieve that in lessons by creating a positive atmosphere and helping them choose repertoire that appeals to them and goals that suit their needs.

Second, I aim for my students to achieve a solid foundation of technique and musicianship on the flute. It is important for flutists to have a solid understanding of fundamentals including tone production, technique, and posture so that they can play the flute with ease. Additionally, I make sure that my students have an understanding of phrasing and music theory so that they can better express the musicality of pieces they play.

Finally, I aim to help my students develop problem-solving skills and practice strategies for use in practicing outside of lessons. Students with these skills can better improve their musical abilities and learn new music on their own, allowing them to improve even more quickly when taking lessons. Students can also apply these skills to any new skill or endeavor they would like to learn, even outside of music.

Additionally, I aim to create a supportive environment when teaching. I believe that when a student feels relaxed, they are better able to learn and more willing to experiment with new ideas. This also ties in with my first goal for my students – for flute lessons to be part of a joyful appreciation of music for my students!
