About

My passion is teaching you to play the harp.  My goal is to help you become the best harpist that you can be.  My professional training was at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University where I received both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Harp Performance and Music Education.

I have over 30 years teaching and performance experience.  Some students have gone on to a professional career, others play for local events and some play in their homes for their own enjoyment.

You might find me at the American Harp Society Conference facilitating workshops on Effective Practicing, Memorization Skills or Performance Anxiety.  I have been a guest lecturer at several schools of music and the leader of master classes.  My involvement with the harp world is the center of my work.

I have a strong commitment to music education.  I have launched a non-profit community based arts academy, Diablo Valley Arts Academy, The Community Music School and the After School Conservatory.   The Music Teachers Association of California commissioned me to write a syllabus for the Harp for their Certificate of Merit Program.

There are a few different philosophies and methods for playing the harp.  I teach the Salzedo Method.  The basis of the approach is to stay relaxed for the best tone and lots of finger facility.  I trained with Carlos Salzedo's protege, Alice Chalifoux.

I infuse music theory and music history into our lessons.  I believe that laughter is an important part of a lesson.  We'll learn every week, while we laugh!  It is important that you know I truly care about you and your progress.  I approach each student with careful attention to your strengths and weaknesses.  My only job is to help you find the joy in making music on the harp to the best of your ability.

There are so many books to mention.  I assign books based on my assessment of the student's musical background and goals.  Some of my favorite method books include "The Method for the Harp" By Lucile Lawrence and Carlos Salzedo, "On Playing the Harp" by Yolanda Kondonassis. and The Grossi Method Book.

Repertoire is assessed weekly.  If you are interested, we'll explore many music genres over time.
