About

I started my journey in music at age 7, when I sang a Disney song in my school's talent show! Soon after, I began piano lessons and music has been the most important part of my life ever since. I sang in jazz choir, participated in singing competitions, took lessons in classical and popular piano and played the flute in band throughout high school. As a Music Education major at Western Washington University, I relished the opportunity to learn all kinds of instruments, perfect my teaching practice, and participate in life-changing performances as a soloist, pianist and choral singer. I feel the blessing and responsibility of passing along what I've learned from incredible music teachers who changed my life!

I began my career teaching music in Quito, Ecuador, where I directed an a cappella choir, volunteered in local music programs and orphanages, and won a song-writing contest. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in Ecuadorian music and gain a deep appreciation for music of other cultures. I was also able to teach and accompany advanced students at a local university.

Since moving back to the Pacific Northwest, I've enjoyed crafting music lessons to fit diverse learners in public schools and a bilingual preschool. I'm most inspired when I get to teach students with unique needs, including Autism, Down syndrome, and English language learners. I'm confident that every student can learn and enjoy music and I get excited about creating lessons that fit each one!

Playing an instrument and singing are activities that everyone can enjoy, regardless of your past experience or natural talent. As a certified music educator with 16 years of experience, I specialize in tailoring music classes to fit a vast array of learning styles. I'm confident that music can become a source of lifelong enjoyment for every student!

My music classes are as diverse as my students, who come to me with goals to sing in Korean, improvise on the piano, belt out opera arias, produce piano arrangements of video game songs, perform Beethoven sonatas, master pop ballads or write their own songs. One of my students even won The Voice Ecuador!

Lessons will include original warm-up videos, colorful visuals, creative music games, customized practice tracks, and a thoughtfully prepared lesson plan. I love to create community around making music, so you will be able to work with other students in music events, song-writing groups and recitals.

Young students participate in music games that they ask to play again and again, often including manipulatives like play dough, world instruments and art supplies. They learn about music theory without even realizing it and become fluent in singing scales and reading rhythms. I also use my Spanish expertise to create a language immersion experience for students who are learning Spanish!
