About

John W. Benedetti  is a NYC based Trumpet player with a BA/BM in Trumpet Performance from the University of Washington under the direction of Allen Vizzutti. John has been playing lead trumpet and teaching for over 26 years while performing around the world. John currently works in NYC with some of the top booking agencies in the city. John's lessons are structured around having the proper physical aspects in place (Proper Embouchure, Aperture and Air Support/Breath Control) so playing trumpet becomes efficient, enjoyable and effortless!!! Let's have fun, Let's learn trumpet!

Private instruction is a great opportunity for a student to learn the details to playing trumpet and making music. Playing trumpet can be fun and enjoyable. It can also be one of the most physically demanding instruments to play.

The physical aspect of playing can be the most crucial. Learning to play with proper air support, embouchure set, correct finger technique, and posture will not only make playing easier, but will also progress your abilities faster and more efficiently.

My lessons are structured around the proper physical and mental approach while applying fundamental techniques such as: Lip Flexibility, Technical Fingering, Range, Proper Equipment, and most importantly, Breath Control, Air Stream and Proper Abdominal Support.

The other part of my lessons involve learning the mental focus needed to make practicing efficient and beneficial, coping with performance anxiety, and establishing "mental confidence" while performing.

All these aspects take time and practice to acquire, but are very important for a trumpet player in order to make trumpet playing fun, exciting, and rewarding.

Every student is different in the way they are "physically set up" learn and retain information. It's important to get to know how all these aspects correlate with each other in order to instruct your student effectively. My approach to instruction analyzes all these aspects and focuses on what needs "work" to make playing/practicing efficient, desirable and fun!

Since not one method or method book is the "end all" to learning and playing trumpet, I use a wide variety of Trumpet Methods and Method Books appropriate to each students needs.
