John Gill is a professional drummer and music educator, specializing in pop, rock, funk and country music genres. Former student of Les DeMerle (Harry James Orchestra, Manhattan Transfer), Rod Morganstein (Dixie Dregs / Winger), Yoron Israel (Berklee College of Music), Jim Payne (Berklee College of Music), Mark Walker (Berklee College of Music) and Chet Doboe (Drummer, Clinician, Educator and Author). Based in Oneonta, NY, a professional drummer with over 20 years of experience teaching, performing and recording. Berklee College of Music Graduate Bachelors of Professional Studies Degree with Honors Magna Cum Laude Class of 2019.

I have 20 years experience teaching  drum set and hand percussion.  I taught drum set and hand percussion for 12 years at The Eighth Note Music Store in Oneonta New York from 2008 to 2020. My students were beginner and intermediate musicians ages 7 through adulthood.  I worked closely with local  Elementary, Middle School and High School music teachers helping students prepare for school concerts and music college admission. 
I am currently teaching private drum lessons online as of March 2020 using the Zoom meeting platform. My studio is equipped with eight cameras offering multiple views. Students have the ability to record their lessons for review and practice.

My teaching method is individual online music instruction designed to meet the needs of my students. I develop an individual practice plan for each student which includes a wholistic approach to drumming. Topics include learning and applying the 40 standard drum rudiments to the drum set. Sight reading, four way limb coordination and independence, hand development techniques, timing, rhythms,drum fills, ear training, music theory, song composition and transcription. Rock, Funk, Pop, Jazz, Swing and Afro Cuban rhythms.
