John is a Brazilian American music educator, bassist, and composer. He has taught music lessons since he was a teenager and currently teaches music at The Academy of Math & Science. He played double bass in Arizona with GCC string orchestra and ASU symphony orchestra. John has worked together(composing and performing) with string orchestras, double bass quartets, wind bands and plays bass in the rock cover band Velvet Crush. He holds a bachelor’s degree (Music Theory and Composition) from Arizona State University. John loves collaborating with others and teaching music to youth.

My teaching style is very fun and geared towards the individual students. I like to make sure the student is enjoying the lessons and playing their instrument. I try to have as much fun as possible while also making sure we learn.

It depends on the instrument. For guitar/bass beginners I like the Hal Leonard guitar method books. For piano I like the Hal Leonard Piano Adventure books. For String instruments (Cello and Double Bass) I like Essential Elements. It also depends on how advanced the student is. I recommend other books to more advanced students.
