About

John Payzant currently teaches cello in the Saskatoon Suzuki String Program and serves as Assistant Principal cellist in the Saskatoon Symphony.   John was Director of the Saskatoon Suzuki String Program for ten years.  John's studio includes both children and adult students.  Some of John's former students have become successful musicians and many have become successful in other fields.  John has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona, where he studied with Dr. Gordon Epperson.  In prior years John practiced yoga and Alexander Technique, giving him an insight into the ergonomics of cello playing.

My goals are to inspire my students, instill in them a love of making music and for them to learn proper technique on the instrument.  I have training  in the Suzuki Talent Education method.   I employ the Suzuki principals of providing a positive nurturing approach, listening to the repertoire you are learning and step by step progression at your own rate.  I include technique (scales, arpeggios, etc.) music reading as necessary and supplementary  repertoire for fun.   I also have experience teaching from the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum and preparing my students for exams.
