Jonathan (Juanito) is a flamenco and classical guitarist based in Seville, Spain. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was also rewarded the Jesus Silvia Merit Scholarship for recognized excellence in the guitar department at VCU. Once graduated, Jonny then moved to Seville, Spain, where he studied and later worked at prestigious flamenco school Fundacion Cristina Heeren, where he has accompanied workshops from Ruben Olmo and Ana Morales and regularly accompanies dance and singing classes from renowned flamenco figures such as: Milagros Menjibar, Javier Baron, Luisa Palicio, Fernando Jimenez, and Manuel Romero.  He was the winner of the TorcuArt flamenco guitar competition in 2023 (USA) and a finalist in the Niño Miguel flamenco guitar competition in 2021 (Spain). He has also performed flamenco in the USA, Belgium, Mexico, Portugal, Canada, Chile, Bolivia, and Spain. He has also taken courses and masterclasses with guitar masters Antonio Rey, Jesus Guerrero, and Dani de Moron.  Jonathan has been living in Seville now for seven years where he continues to refine his skills frequently performing in tablaos like Pura Esencia, El Palacio Andaluz, Tablao Flamenco Azahar, etc.

I would consider myself a patient teacher, as I clearly remember the difficult and frustrating beginnings of learning an instrument. I always try to put myself in the students position in order to transmit the lessons in the most effective and uplifting way.  Something I believe when starting flamenco/classical guitar is developing a solid and correct technique. It is especially important to have this base in order to not develop bad habits or injuries later on. As we all know, each student is different, which means each lesson will be tailored dependent on the student's level. I sincerely enjoy watching my students grow and evolve and hope I can be of the greatest help on their journey learning the guitar. I teach all levels and ages.

Flamenco guitar:

Flamenco is an art form that has been traditionally passed down and learned orally, but a book that I really enjoyed and that helped was Dennis Koster's Keys to Flamenco I and II.

Classical Guitar:

Hal Leonard's Classical Guitar Method helped me learn to read music and also has some cool repertoire pieces.

Scott Tenant's Pumping Nylon is fantastic for technique and has some great exercises as well.

The Sazuki Guitar School books are helpful. I have volume 4, 5, and 6, but I'm sure all volumes are great.
