About

Jonny is a progressive, Vancouver-based multi-instrumentalist. After establishing his foundation for music through experimentation with various instruments, he formed a true connection to the guitar. Today, Jonny is a self-taught guitarist with advanced technical skills and theoretical knowledge. While rooted in Rock and Metal, he continues to expand his abilities to cover a variety of other genres such as R&B, Jazz and pop.

Teaching Style

Jonny believes music speaks to everyone, no matter their background, and he is passionate about helping his students find their own sound. He provides a safe and fun space for his students to learn and grow, offering expert guidance in technique, applicable theory, and self-expression.

Curriculum

Best texts for any skill level are the "Hal Leonard Guitar Method" books, along with the RCM prep texts.

Credentials & Affiliations

Jonny is a self taught guitarist and musician, who has taught over 300 students in the last 5 years in affiliation with the companies Downbeats Studios (2019-2020), Temple Music Academy (2020-2021), Ryan May Music (2023-2025), and Song of Stars (2025-present), where he taught beginner to advanced level guitar lessons accross multiple styles including rock, metal, R&B, jazz, country, and pop, with student ages ranging from 5 years of age to 60 years of age. 

Jonny has performed in many of the local venues in the Vancouver area, including Rickshaw Theatre, The Cobalt, Red Gate, Guilt & Co, Green Auto, The Biltmore, and more. His most recent professional accomplishments include a Tour of Western Canada with the band Tess Anderson (March 14-29, 2025), performing at the Hollywood Theatre with Artist Emma Alves (January 29, 2026), and providing session guitar for local artists Tess Anderson, Emma Alves, Talia Duvet, and several others with the production and enginering company 12fangsrecording.
