Jonathan Lawrence began learning the violin at of 9 in Jacksonville Florida. As a high school student he performed with the Douglas Anderson Orchestra, The Jacksonville Youth Symphony, and the University of Florida Chamber Orchestra.
Following high school he earned a Bachelor's in Music education with a focus on violin performance under the leadership of virtuoso violinist Routa Kroumovitch, who was a student of the famous David Oistrakh. While there he was able to perform throughout Italy and the UK.
Jonathan Lawrence has now been a music teacher in the Lee County Schools system now for almost 12 years (teaching general music, strings, and chorus). He has also taught private lessons during that time and has been conducting at beginning string orchestra at Music Works! for last couple of years. He subs with the Southwest Florida Symphony from time to time and has performed regularly with the Gulfcoast symphony for the past 10 years. He has also performed using various music styles such as rock, jazz, reggae, country, hiphop, soul, folk, bluegrass, and ect with various different bands and projects.
I've been a professional music teach in both the classroom and when it comes to teaching private lessons for the last 12 years. I am a Suzuki registered teacher for books 1 and 2, which means I have taken training courses focused on that method. I think it's one of the best methods for starting out.
I am a Certified Music Teacher in Lee County, which is public information that can be looked up at any time. As a registered Suzuki Violin teacher, that can also be looked up.
I would recommend the purchase of Suzuki Book 1 and I Can Read Music Book 1 for Violin to get started. Having a good shoulder rest is also important.
