About
My name is Joshua Carter, and I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I served with the 2D MAW Band in Cherry Point, NC from 2017-2020. I currently hold a Master's Degree in Music Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC and have over a decade of experience teaching various groups ranging in size from a single musician to an entire marching band. In addition to teaching, I am also the Principal Tubist for the Wilmington Symphony. I have a passion for all things music, and I want to pass on the knowledge that I have gained to the next generation of musicians and educators. My lessons are appropriate for anyone ranging from beginners who are just starting out, to professionals who want to better themselves.
I take a lot of my pedagogy from Arnold Jacobs, a legend in the music community. Our lessons will be centered around producing the best sounds possible, and making sure that we hear music in our heads as we produce sound. I am a firm believer that the instrument is simply an amplifier for the vibrations our bodies produce, so we will spend our time refining how our bodies work in conjunction with the instrument. Music comes from inside of us, and some small changes in our way of thinking can help you achieve you goals.
