Juan Felipe Mejia Tobon
About
I am a professional drummer, educator, and performer with more than 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. I graduated from Berklee College of Music and have performed internationally in a wide variety of musical styles including jazz, Latin music, Colombian folk music, pop, rock, and world music.
As an active performer, I bring real-world musical experience into every lesson. I regularly perform with professional ensembles and believe that learning music should be both practical and inspiring. My goal is not only to help students develop technical skills but also to become confident, creative, and expressive musicians.
I tailor every lesson to the individual student. Some students want to build a strong foundation and learn the basics of rhythm, coordination, reading, and technique. Others are interested in improvisation, groove, musicality, advanced drumming concepts, or preparing for auditions, performances, and music school applications. Together we create a learning plan that fits your goals, interests, and pace.
I welcome complete beginners as well as advanced students. Lessons are conducted in a supportive and encouraging environment where mistakes are viewed as an important part of the learning process.
Whether your goal is to play your favorite songs, perform professionally, improve your musicianship, or simply enjoy making music, I look forward to helping you on your musical journey.
