About
Hi there!
I am an intermediate-advanced pianist with 3+ years experience teaching piano. I have 6+ years experience playing piano and keyboard at churches, and have been playing for 15+ years. I've enjoyed helping and watching students of various ages cultivate a passion for the piano. I enjoy classical music and improvisation.
Teaching Style
- Strong emphasis on classical pieces.
- Flexibility to work on other pieces students find interesting (if the piece is a reasonable challenge at the student's current level), and willingness (+ prior experience) to help guide students through extra assignments from school band/orchestra.
I also have experience with the Suzuki piano books, and am willing to use this method with students who are more comfortable learning and playing by ear.
Curriculum
Strong classical emphasis, with flexibility to incorporate the Suzuki materials and/or an improvisational focus as students desire.
Some of my favorite books:
- Quick Piano (a good starting place for complete beginners, those wanting to learn chords, and those interested in learning group accompaniment)
- Melodious Masterpieces series (Jane Magrath)
- Essential Piano Repertoire series (Keith Snell)
- Suzuki piano books (for those interested in the Suzuki method or learning by ear)
- The Library of Piano Classics books (more advanced / later on)
If you are currently a piano student, I'm also happy to look at the materials you're currently using and see if we can work with those first!
