About
My name is Katherine Rufli. I am a graduate of Berklee College Of Music where I studied voice performance and electronic production as well as film scoring. I have been singing and live preforming from as young as 11 years old and was classically trained in Violin and Voice from ages 6-22. My band Vera Kay is an alternative rock band that has toured the West Coast and has released singles over the past 3 years. As well as my band, I am a songwriter and film scorer and have written songs and music for films that have been premiered at the Cannes film festival. I am continuing to work as a vocal coach and freelance film scorer in NY and would love to work with anyone looking to enhance there craft or start a new hobby.
Being classically trained I spent a lot of time working on exercises and warm ups. This was a majority of my lesson time, however saw the most progress when working on songs I was passionate about, in everything from stamina to range to strength. Warming up your voice is important, and I have worked with dozens of vocal coaches throughout my career to create a collection of the most effective voice warm ups. Being a touring musician, stamina and health is a very important part of my vocal routine, you don't not want to cause damage to your voice, and this is something I have mastered on the road. Along with vocal lessons, for students who want to work on songwriting techniques or practice original music, this is something else we can work on in your lesson time. With focus on pop, rock and theater singing we can create or use backing tracks for any songs you want to learn as well as vocal warm ups that you can use anywhere.
