About

Keith Phillips, BBA, MTNA, is an award-winning classically trained pianist taught by concert pianists Ernestine Smith, Marilyn Neely, Dr. John Roberts, and Gellert Modos. He trained under music scholarship with Dr. Roberts in piano performance at Furman University. He has studied composition with Leo Smit under music scholarship (Brevard Music Center), who was taught by Dmitri Kabalevsky, and has worked with Igor Stravinsky, Aaron Copland, and Leonard Bernstein.

Keith is the author of “Practical Piano Techniques”, a guide book for teachers and students. Keith has created 26 solo piano and piano orchestration CDs that he sells across the continental U.S. He has currently sold over 40,000 of his CDs.

Keith is fluent both in beginner and advanced classical repertoire instruction, competition preparation, music theory, sight-reading instruction, blues and other improvisation styles, composition, and current trends using computer recording software. He offers preparation for both ABRSM and MTNA programs.

Keith is a third-generation teacher and loves to teach all ages. His fun and entertaining approach will help students develop proper piano technique, sight-reading skills, tonal clarity, and rhythmic precision. With his advanced methods and sufficient practice, students will develop two to three times faster than with basic instruction.

I enjoy teaching and always strive to make piano lessons a fun experience.  I am a third-generation teacher and feel very comfortable in this environment.  Having written a book on piano technique, I make sure that students are given the right techniques each week and that they understand the techniques and why they are effective. I encourage sufficient practice for students to be successful, and with this practice and the correct technique, I believe each student will achieve a high-quality result.
